Garlic Bread Recipe

There are several ways to produce garlic bread, this recipe is one of my favourites. Skip the butter and go with the margarine if you want it a little healthier.

Serves 4

Recipe Ingredients
2 demi-baguettes or paninis (or 1 large baguette)
85g / 3oz butter / margarine
2 cloves garlic
Sea salt and cracked black pepper to taste

Mise-en-Place:
Preheat the oven to gas mark 4 / 180°C / 350°F
Being careful not to cut all the way through the baguette, slice a line of deep diagonal cuts down the length of the baguette. (Aim to cut through 3/4 of the bread's thickness.)
Chop the garlic
Melt the butter or margarine.
Mix the melted butter with the garlic, salt and pepper

Cooking Method:
Pour the melted butter mix over the bread. Make sure the butter penetrates the sliced bread as deep as possible.
Bake the bread for 8 minutes.
The bread is done when golden brown.
Serve hot or warm

Cowboy Trick:
Burnt the bread? Scrape the worst of the carbons off (chef talk for burnt bits!) with a serrated knife. Serve
